Youth for Tennis Liberia (YFTL) is a grassroots initiative led by Coach Alfred Kandakai, an International Tennis Federation Level 2 Coach and technical director of the Liberian Tennis Federation. Since 2010, Coach Alfred has been dedicated to teaching tennis to children in Liberia, a country still rebuilding from years of civil war. From this passion, Coach Alfred founded YFTL in 2017. YFTL has made a tremendous impact by introducing hundreds of Liberian children to the game of tennis and equipping these youth with skills to shield them from societal challenges that plague Liberia.
YFTL has achieved remarkable results. Our team has worked to build the first tennis court for communal use since the beginning of the first Civil War in 1989, host introductory tennis clinics that have reached over 5,000 students across 8 different schools in the area, incorporate tennis into the PE programs at 3 different schools (the first schools to do this in Liberia), host several successful fundraisers and equipment drives, and much more to achieve life changing results in the youth we work with.
